At American Academy in Prague, we spent a week exploring the "Treasures of Prague" in small groups. In this website, I will reveal the key aspects regarding modern and historical Prague, and the remnants of impactful events that changed the course of history for the city.
trams
One aspect unique to Prague is its tram system. Not only useful to locals, but also to tourists and visitors. A strong public transportation system is essential to a well-run city. Equipped with trams, buses and metros, Prague's easy to understand system is a huge hit.

Compared to cities like Berlin, Marseille, and Aix-en-Provence, not only is the percentage of people using public transportation higher but the quality of transport is extremely high.

Prague's system of transportation better than that of most European and American cities, and there are plenty of environmental and economical factors that prove just how much better trams are than other forms of transport.
Trams only have two or four engines that are powered by the electrical lines above them. This proves to be environmentally friendly, as you don't have to regularly fill the trams up with gas as you do with cars. Cars are also more economically challenging for your average citizen.
Rather than putting in thousands of dollars into buying and supporting cars, people can pay a small amount for a transportation pass and not even have to worry afterward. Not to mention how much safer public transportation is than cars, as statistically there are less accidents.
alchemy & history
Our group of students had a tour guide who taught us different aspects of Prague history and alchemy in Prague. Overall it was a very interesting tour and helped people who have only been in Prague for a few months to understand how there is more of this city than meets the eye.

We learned all of the different ways to read the astronomical clock and the history of it.
Our guide taught us the different colors of alchemy and we saw different alchemy sites in the town, such as the ones below.

The gold sun is a popular symbol of alchemy.

The writing on the plaques shows the museum/cafe is related to alchemy.

The remnants of a moat in the mustek station.

The church that witnessed magic.
anthropoid tour
Before going out into the tour, we had a short lecture about the anthropoid operation. We learned about the Prague bombings, the 7 people who died in the church, the murder of the government official and how he died, the legacy that the 7 people left.

The memorial for the bombing of Prague. 701 crosses for the 701 victims. The rusty metal is made from the bomb pieces.

The bullet holes and memorial in the church.

movies in prague
In both a location management workshop and a tour to see film locations, we learned just how many films and music videos were actually filmed in Prague, even if they took place in another city. Many famous scenes from movies such as mission impossible were shot in old town square and Charles bridge. I would definitely recommend to find the exact scenes where the movies were filmed, as it is super cool to make the connections.
holocaust speaker
We had a guest speaker talk about her experiences as a survivor of the holocaust. She explained how the humanity of Jewish people went down slowly in the years before the concentration camps. She was based in a camp in Terezin, which was known for it's treatment to children (which she was). learning about how the holocaust affected Prague was very beneficial. It helped put the modern city into a better perspective. Overall, if you get the opportunity to speak to a survivor or listen/read to their story, you must do it as it's an opportunity you'll never regret.
Thank you for reading thus far! I strongly recommend to visit Prague and visit these historical sites that tourists wouldn't normally visit. To look through this website more in depth please type in the link below. Thank you.
